Today, supported by their network of ivy, the last stones of the castle of Abzac (they owned in the 15th century), still dominate the small town clustered around its church dedicated to St Peter and Paul.
Later, the church was probably built in the 11th century but "on the site and the foundations of another church that may date from the seventh or eighth century."
The name of Saint Paul de Serre appears for the first time in an act of 1226 in the form of Sanctus Paulus Sera.
The first population census of known date of 1365. One might think that that time, there were about 180 souls in St Paul de Serre. The situation will change and in 1851 the village was at its peak with 591 inhabitants.
The discovery by chance work flints, polished stones attests to the antiquity of the occupation of our territory
The Gallo-Roman period is represented by the remains of villas found in the fields (tiles, cement, mortar, marble and fragments of pottery).
A lump - elevation of land surrounded by a moat - still visible in the woods and the village of Mouthe is probably the name of such a construction.
